WIM Changelog - February 2023

Hey Web3 builders and makers of all kind!
Thanks for following Web3 Island Makers' adventures. Last update was in September... A TOOOOOOOON of things have happened since.
Let's make it as short as possible, by month. Here is a summary:
October π: laying out the bedrock of a real DAO after 3 intense first months.
β We defined our mission, set up a set of 6 months OKRs, installed a first layer of Governance, launched and then very fast postponed WIMake. We also organized another successful WIMeet.

π WIMeet#3
November π: expanding the community around projects in alignment with our OKRs.
β We launched our own Decentralized Startup Studio "The Peak π", selected the first project to be incubated among 12 applicants, teamed up with new members in the South of Tenerife, organized a new casual and very fun event format "Crypto Tapas".
We welcomed our dear partners, W3B Lab, in Tenerife, sharing for the first time our community vibe. Our very promising relationship and intentions were solidified.

December π
: our first Web3 incubated product and connection with the local ecosystem.
β We announced "Traders Island" the first project of "The Peak π", a DeFi perpetual futures trading platform and recruited 14 community members to work on it in 1 month. We organized our first WIMeet in the South of Tenerife and attended as speaker a major local event for Digital Nomads, remote workers and entrepreneurs ; both events unlocking meaningful connections with community leaders of Canary Islands.
We ended the year with 124 members, including 36 active Makers with minted access NFT and 6 Shapers as core team members. We collected donations and Shapers contributions to have a first treasury of Β±1200β¬. Individual investments had been made up to Β±2500β¬.

Concluding 2022 π
So these first 6 months were wrapped in an exciting, fast and structured development. Not an easy one though: Our first challenge with the postponing of WIMake was a very hard first decision to be voted as a DAO. We also learned that a DAO is nothing but the members that make it live: we are now super vigilant with the recruitment, responsibilities and balance between work and fun. Working with very distant revenue stream ahead is also uncomfortable: "Web3 epicenter for entrepreneurship" is not known as the most lucrative business model as you'd reckon.
Above these learning, the dominant feeling was "We're actually doing it!". Turning our dream into reality was exhilarating. Our plans, team and motivation was peaking to enter 2023.
January π: starting 2023 with a powerful impulse.
β We started the year with an engaging community annual kick-off. We organized our first paid-event with a professional speaker and a supportive co-working place as a hosting partner. We worked hard on our Tokenomics and got our hands dirty with Traders Island. We welcomed our first active member from another Canary island: Gran Canaria.
We also re-designed WIMake into the project of a more accessible Web3 Conference to be held in April.

February π: heavy focus on Traders Island, Web3 Con Canarias (WCC) and launch of our native token $PEAK.
β The project is running on Avalanche testnet, the marketing foundations are built. At this stage the product needs bootstrap funding for the launch, and a high Solidity expertise to compile for an EVM compatible mainnet. We intensely looked for a new EVM compatible blockchain to partner with and get a grand from. Had good leads with Flare and Moonbeam ; but didn't get them, despite the utterly hot narrative around perpetual futures these months. Market conditions are freezing grants allocation from what our interlocutors said.

β Web3 Con Canarias, the postponed version of WIMake was, in the end, launched rather late: just 70 days before the D-day. We recruited amazing and committed community team members to fast-launch, support the organization and promotion of this major event.
By the end of the month, we had lined up a powerful range of speakers, shaken hands with a set of very supportive partners. We are now looking for serious sponsorship to sustain a financially viable event.

β We voted the Tokenomics light paper and minted the native token of the DAO. With a supply of 1,000,000 $PEAK, this "V0" token will fuel the activity of the DAO for a period estimated in between 6 and 12 months, until we're confident to release our permanent V1 token with an extended supply. This token is already distributed to contributors and will soon be open to private sale.

As of today, we are +220 members in this community, including 48 active Makers and still the same team of 6 Shapers. We keep investing individually in the tools, skills and materials we need to develop, now approaching Β±3500β¬ of total investment with an untouched treasury of Β±1200β¬.
This adventure is getting more and more passionating by the day. The people from within and outside the community, from within and outside the Web3 space are all surprisingly collaborative and we couldn't be more grateful for this.
Last week one of the Shapers joked about long term goals: "Imagine, 3 to 5 years from now, best Web3 startups will be from Tenerife hahahaha"... We looked at each others and realized that we really wanted to achieve this.
Thanks for everyones' support!
For March, our targets are:
- To unlock Traders Island
- Sell out 100 tickets for WCC
- Get sponsors for WCC
- Organize our first WIMeet in Gran Canaria
